Type Locality and Naming

Lower formation of the Tuzkabak Gr

Synonym: E3ak


Lithology and Thickness

Upper unit is 28.6 m of Yellowish-greenish-gray clays, locally brownish-red, with subordinate interlayers of light gray siltstones and thin interlayers of light gray, fine- to very fine-grained quartz sandstone, and occasionally sand. In the upper part of the section - an interlayer of red clays. Middle unit is 29.2 m of Light gray siltstones, locally brown and black due to the presence of manganese and iron crusts and concretions, with interlayers of brownish-yellow and greenish-gray, platy clays, locally ferruginous with manganese and iron oxide crusts. In the lower part of the sequence - rare interlayers of fine-grained light gray quartz sands and sandstones. Lower unit is 16.2 m of Greenish-gray and light brown clays with iron and manganese oxide spots, with interlayers of light gray siltstones. In the upper part of the layer - an interlayer of sandstones with fragments of fish and reptile bones.
